The BBC World Service Trust is the independent international charity of the BBC. Their mission is to improve the quality of people’s lives in developing and transitional countries through innovative use of media. They do this through focus on health, governance, livelihoods, climate change and humanitarian response. BBC works in partnerships that include governments, broadcasters, civil society institutions, donor agencies and international Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

They are scaling up to deliver a global project which requires development of base line indicators across multiple countries that will enable them to measure impact. You’ll lead the team in developing and delivering innovative, high quality and consistent research and impact evaluation to enhance the quality of the media projects we deliver. Your key responsibility will be to manage staff, ensuring new joiners are inducted and the overall team adequately supported to deliver effectively.

You’ll liaise with academic institutions, media houses and other parts of the BBC, including BBC’s internal Audience Research units in order to maximise our effectiveness in meeting programme and audience needs. You’ll mobilise resources to support our planned work, and to make the best use of them to maximise impact. As well as producing and disseminating results internally and externally, which will strengthen our position as a thought leader in the field, you’ll also manage the London based research team, providing effective performance management of all your direct reports.

Strong management skills are the most important attribute needed in this role so you’ll have substantial experience managing teams of staff as well as significant experience managing the delivery of international research and consulting projects, meeting deadlines and within budget. With excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills, you’ll have the ability to conduct business at the highest level of government, private sector and media as well as with national team members.
