StarHub, SingTel against MDA plan

A GOVERNMENT proposal to cap consumer pay-TV contracts at two years and pro-rate early-termination charges has not got the vote from industry heavyweights even as consumer advocates signal their approval.

Last month, the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) issued a consultation paper inviting industry players to give their take on the two proposed guidelines.

Pay-TV contracts are not regulated as Singapore’s content regulator has historically preferred not to interfere with commercial arrangements in the media market.
