Stephen Conroy faces plea to slash red tape- Australia

he Department of Broadband, Commutations and Digital Economy had received 21 submissions from media and telecommunications players by Friday afternoon’s deadline, as it attempts to come up with a better series of rules for an industry reshaped by technological change.

A request for submissions was made during the mid-December release of draft terms of reference for Communications Minister Stephen Conroy’s much-anticipated “convergence review”, and comes at a typically busy time for the sector.

The potential $5 billion sharemarket listing of Nine Entertainment Group, the rollout of the National Broadcast Network and final changes to the anti-siphoning rules governing televised sport, as well as broadcast rights negotiations for the AFL, NRL and V8 Supercars Australia, are just some of the big issues expected to take place.
