New York Film Academy Filmmaking Workshop in India

New York Film Academy, will be conducting a 4 week Filmmaking Workshop in Mumbai from 30 January to 25 February 2012. All faculty and equipment from NYFA, USA. The hand – on intensive workshop provides great opportunity to learn about screenwriting, directing, camera and editing (on FCP). Every student makes 3 short films as a part of the curriculum.

Strategies and Best Practices on Global Issues of Gender, Migration, HIV & AIDS and Human Development

Purpose

This 6-day interactive seminar will provide senior and executive-level leaders and managers from Africa, Asia & Pacific, and beyond with a portfolio of global and country-specific best practices and strategies based on successful programs and initiatives that address global issues related to gender, migration, HIV & AIDS and human development. The seminar will also provide these participant leaders with the practical opportunities, group process techniques, and problem-solving coaching in small working groups to share successes and continuing challenges and to then develop lessons learned, next steps, and solutions related to their chosen priority issues.
Highlights of the 6-day seminar include:

  • Learn from subject matter experts who will present during the seminar.
  • See best practices in action via program site visits in China.
  • Participate in issue-based working groups on strategies for policy & program development.
  • Learn from and communicate with GHA facilitators who have more than 25 years of leadership training and facilitation experience with global health and development issues & programs.
  • Share lessons learned & best practices for greater South to South cooperation.
  • Network with executive-level leaders from other countries.
  • Leave the seminar with a written planning process.

During the issue-based working groups, selected participants will have the opportunity to give a short presentation on a best practice of their organization. Please see registration form “Section 3, Personal Statement” for how to apply to be a presenter.

Training Methodologies and Working Techniques

The seminar, like all of Global Health Action’s educational programs and trainings, will emphasize practical and experiential learning and will include:

  • Issue-specific class presentations by experts, small group discussions & problem-solving, and peer-to-peer learning
  • An emphasis on case studies, analyses of actual best practices, and coaching
  • Project site visits to experience and learn from on-the-ground successful programs in China
  • Opportunities to explore chosen issues of concern in depth through targeted small group work with support from an experienced facilitator

Graduates will receive a joint certificate from Global Health Action and Nanjing International Training Center.

About Nanjing International Training Center for Population Program (NITC), Nanjing, China

NITC is an independent training institution directly affiliated with the National Population and Family Planning Commission (NPFPC). It strengthens international and south-south collaboration in RH/FP and population program, to maximize the sharing of country experiences. NITC offers specialized training programs in strategic management and leadership, project and program management, demographic studies and RH/FP development. It is now the “South-South Cooperation Project” China Base designated by UNFPA Beijing and the “Global Leadership
Program” training base designated by South-South Partners in Population and Development.


Cost and Payments

The seminar fee is US$630 per person, including the training manual, all handouts, seminar proceedings, educational tools, plus transportation to and from the arrival airport in Nanjing and the departure airport in Shanghai, and to local program site visits and sightseeing arranged by NITC. Group food & lodging costs are US$80 per person per day for 7 days (US$560). Participants are responsible for their own arrangements and costs for international travel, visas, and incidentals. NITC will provide letters of invitation for visa applications. The total cost for each participant is US$1,190.

Head of Project – Health, Bangladesh BBC

BBC Media Action is the independent international charity of the BBC. Our mission is to improve the quality of people’s lives in developing and transitional countries through innovative use of media. We do this through our focus on health, governance, livelihoods, climate change and humanitarian response. We work in partnerships that include governments, broadcasters, civil society institutions, donor agencies and international Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

You’ll be the senior person in charge of managing and delivering the DFID Global Grant health project and will report directly to the Bangladesh Country Director. Overseeing the planning, delivery and intermittent donor reporting phases of the project, you’ll work with the Bangladesh project management, creative and core teams to identify priority objectives, activities and manage the commitment to what the expected outcomes & impact will be. Your line management responsibilities include a project team but you’ll also need to work across the office with other senior staff in other teams such as Bangladesh project teams. Marketing, Research and Learning, Finance and Operations.

With experience in a senior project management position, you’ll have a demonstrated capacity to effectively manage a large-scale complex project implemented by a diverse team, We need your proven track-record in international development and working in a developing country, as well as your experience of public health related work in an international development context, specifically within the maternal & child area. You’ll also be well practiced in managing teams of local and international staff, preferably within a developing country context.

Lionsgate, Saban team with Celestial in Asian JV

Hollywood independent studio Lionsgate and U.S. media investment firm Saban Capital said Thursday they’re teaming up with a Malaysian-owned company in a pay TV joint venture to tap the expanding Asian entertainment market.

Lionsgate, Saban and Malaysia film and TV company Celestial Pictures said the new venture, Celestial Tiger Entertainment, will get a “significant capital investment” from Saban. The amount wasn’t disclosed.

Film trio unite to offer Asia pay-TV:36

Celestial Pictures, which owns the Shaw Brothers Film Library, is partnering with Hollywood independent studio Lionsgate, producer of the hit TV series Mad Men, and a United States private equity firm to tap Asia’s booming entertainment market.

Celestial Tiger Entertainment (CTE), the three companies’ joint venture firm, will mainly operate pay television channels and will be based in Hong Kong. Consumers will be able to subscribe to its six channels through Now TV and Hong Kong Broadband.

India begins public consultation on Cable TV digitalization

Shift from analog technology now a step closer with stakeholder dialogue.

Once finished, digitalization will boost broadcasters, MSOs and cable operators and support service to India’s fast-growing TV market now pegged at nearly 150 million households.

This is according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority in India (TRAI), which has submitted a consultation paper that outlines the concerns of stakeholders. Comments will be open until January 23 2012.

New Privacy Guidelines for Australian Broadcasters

The Australian Communications and Media Authority’s new Privacy Guidelines for Broadcasters 2011 include enhanced guidance for broadcasters on how the broadcasting codes protect the privacy of Australians, whether or not in a public place.
The guidelines also deal with consent, children, public figures, material in the public domain and public interest.

“The aim is to further increase awareness of code privacy obligations developed by industry in broadcasting codes of practice and to assist broadcasters to better understand these obligations,” said ACMA Chairman, Chris Chapman.
