 Current Projects

1) Alternative Media Portal
AMIC's Alternative Media portal (www.amicaltmedia.net) is an on-going project, which gradually increases its database and news archives.

2) "Asian Voices" Radio Programme
This programme continues to be produced on a monthly basis based on various issues in the Asian context such as, “Right to Information”, “Role and Nature of Community Radio in Asia”, “Alternative Media in Southeast Asia”, “Utilizing Media to Promote Peace”, and many more. Currently, this programme is downloaded and broadcast by at least eight radio stations in the region.

3) AYCN (www.aycn.net)
The AYCN.net was enriched with more than 40,000 pictures through the collaboration of youthmedia.eu, the European partner representing more than 20,000 users. The portal was updated with relevant information from UNESCO, Asian Development Bank, ASEAN and other partners. A monthly newsletter was sent out containing information on the AYCN.net, its development, announcements of events, new publications and career information.

4) Study of Thai Public Broadcasting Service
Dr Palphol Rodloytuk, in Bangkok, has completed the research and completed a report on the Thai Public Broadcasting Service in December 2009. The report, edited by Milind Kokje, will be produced in CD-ROM format.

5) Asian Consultation on UNESCO Model Journalism Curriculum
AMIC has commissioned six researchers in India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Philippines, Laos and Indonesia to assist in compiling resource material from Asia to deliver four of the modules in the UNESCO curriculum. Dr Kalinga Seneviratne, who is coordinating the project, attended a seminar organised in Manila in June 2009 on the ASEAN Consultation on the UNESCO Model Journalism Curriculum. A CD-ROM consisting of resource material will be produced for use in classrooms.
6) Developing Curriculum and Conducting Community Radio Training.
In association with the Tambuli Foundation in the Philippines, we have obtained IPDC funding to develop curriculum to train community radio practitioners across Asia in various aspects of setting up, managing and producing community-based contents for community radio stations. Dr Kalinga Seneviratne and Louie Tabing of Tambuli (Philippines) have jointly developed the curriculum and conducted a series of workshops to deliver the curriculum in various Asian countries.
7) Media Accountability and Freedom of Expression in ASEAN
A research and documentation project funded by UNESCO researched the above issues in the ten ASEAN countries, and compiled loaded research material into a new website to be hosted by UNESCO.
8) Public Service Broadcasting in Asia
This is an unfounded research project looking at public service broadcasting in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia and Singapore. In each of the countries, local academics are doing it as part of their research portfolio. The reports will be compiled into a book by AMIC.
